NEW SPARTA FILMS (NSF) was established by Dr Jerome Booth and Nicki Hattingh in June 2013 with the aim of creating a UK-based, independent film-finance and production company with a sound reputation for honesty, transparency, and fairness.
NSF has financed several feature films to date, with its first film, Matteo Garrone’s Tale of Tales, being selected for Official Competition at Cannes Film Festival 2015, and Catherine Hardwicke’s Miss You Already being awarded a Gala Premiere at Toronto International Film Festival 2015. Since then, Martin Koolhoven’s Brimstone premiered in competition at the Venice Film Festival 2016, and Juan Carlos Medina’s The Limehouse Golem premiered at TIFF 2016. Most recently, NSF financed Yorgos Lanthimos’s The Killing of a Sacred Deer alongside Film4, which premiered in Competition at Cannes 2017, winning that year’s award for Best Screenplay.
The company’s in-house development and production arm is currently working on several feature films, including a family film adaptation of Sam Angus’ Soldier Dog, a period drama adaptation of Kamila Shamsie’s Burnt Shadows, as well as the true story of the CIA’s greatest covert operation during the height of the Cold War: Neither Confirm Nor Deny.
